CMCD Statistics

Player-reported analytics including video start time, buffering ratio, and bitrate from CMCD-enabled clients.

The CMCD (Common Media Client Data) specification is a standard developed by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) that defines how media player clients send playback and error status information to Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) with each object request.

Uplynk collects CMCD information from playback clients through its internal CDN when those clients support CMCD. Roku players generally support CMCD, as do other devices. If your playback clients do not support CMCD, Uplynk will not receive this data. Enable CMCD on your player to take advantage of this information.

CMCD lets you analyze what your end viewers actually experience, such as slow video starts, rebuffering, and other playback impairments.

Only CMCD specification v1 is supported at this time.

The CMCD Statistics report provides the following analytics:

AnalyticDetails
ViewershipIndicates the total number of viewers that have CMCD enabled in their player. This can have the same unique viewer having multiple playback sessions.
Unique ViewersIndicates the total number of unique viewers that have CMCD enabled in their player.
Avg Video Start TimeIndicates the average Video Start Time for a video stream in milliseconds (ms).
Video Start SuccessIndicates the percentage of successful starts of video playback.
Video Start FailureIndicates the percentage of unsuccessful starts of video playback.
Buffering RatioIndicates the buffering ratio in the playback client. This is calculated by summing the total rebuffering time over total playback time.
Avg BitrateIndicates the average bitrate being served to players.
Avg ThroughputIndicates the average throughput.
Avg Top Bitrate UtilIndicates the average top bitrate utilized by the player.
Viewership Over TimeIndicates the viewership over time in a graph.
Unique Viewers Over TimeIndicates the unique viewers over time in a graph.
Buffering Over TimeIndicates the buffering ratio over time in a graph.
Video Start Time Over TimeIndicates the Video Start Time over time in a graph.
Video Start Success and Start Failure PercentageIndicates the Video Start Success and Video Start Failures over time in a graph.
Avg Bitrate, Throughput, Top Bitrate UtilIndicates the Avg Bitrate, Avg Throughput, and Avg Top Bitrate Util over time in a graph.
Viewership By CountryIndicates the viewership by country for viewers that have CMCD enabled in their player.
Unique Viewers By ISPIndicates the unique viewership by ISP for viewers that have CMCD enabled in their player.
OSIndicates the operating system used by viewers that have CMCD enabled in their player (e.g. Roku OS, iOS)
EnvironmentIndicates the environment used by viewers that have CMCD enabled in their player (e.g. CTV, Mobile Web, Desktop).
